Following is the time line to file a grievance.
Article 31 (a) First
step
The member has 7 calendar days to file a grievance with the company.
The company has 7 calendar days to respond to the grievant.
If the company does not respond within 7 days, the member may submit a second step.
The company is to hand the grievance directly to the grievant.
Supporting evidence.
With the
Advisory letter with a complete C21 and C23 from the previous year.
Notes from 29f meetings.
Overtime solicitation sheets and time / attendance sheets are in the steward office.
Place gathered information in the steward office with the union’s copy.
Article 31 (b) Second
step.
The member has 10 days from the date the first step was received back, to second step.
Make sure the date the member received the grievance is the date entered.
The member must date and sign the grievance.
The steward can now enter the grievance into the second step log.
The grievance must
be entered into the log within the 10 day time limit.
If the member did not receive the first step back make a copy of the members form.
Enter on the back of the copy “Answer not received in a timely manner”.
The company has 12 days to answer the grievance.
The grievance answer will be mailed directly to the grievant via certified mail.
If the grievance is not mailed out in 12 days, 8 hours of straight time is awarded.
Article 31 (c)
Third step.
Grievances must be submitted within 20 days to the system board of adjustment.
The 20 days starts on the day a member signed for the second step via certified mail.
The grievance and envelope are required by the local AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
The third step grievance is forwarded to the international to enter onto the docket.
DO NOT leave a third step grievance in the steward office.
